You Are What You Eat… Sowing the Seeds of Anxiety… Or Not

By Recovering Panic - aholic

Let me ask you a question…

If you decided this morning you were going to lose 30 pounds and all day you only ate spinach, broccoli and lean protein, by this evening what would you expect to happen if you stepped on the scale?

Or if when you woke up you made a goal of having massive biceps and spent the day in the gym how much larger do you think your biceps would be this evening?

I saw a quote this morning I wanted to share with you:

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.”

Robert Louis Stevenson – 1850-1895, Essayist, Poet and Novelist

Where you are today is a result of decisions made and actions taken going back months… years… decades… maybe even your whole life.

Your biceps and your physique look like they do not because of what you did today but what you’ve done (or not done) over the past months or years.

So how does this help those of us suffering from anxiety disorders or panic attacks?

You are where you are today because of choices made and actions taken consistently and repeatedly whether consciously or not for many months if not years or decades.

I don’t make the previous statement to make you feel any worse than you may already feel but rather to offer a different perspective containing great hope.

If today you choose differently and act differently and do so consistently and repeatedly then as time goes on you will begin to enjoy the benefits.

Up until now you have been planting certain “seeds” that have led to a harvest of anxiety, fear and panic.

Because of the quantity and consistency of these “seeds” being planted it is often difficult to even believe you can expect any different fruit then you currently experience.

If you’ve ever planted anything from a seed you know it can be both an exciting and discouraging project.

When you first plant the seed you are excited about seeing something grow up from the dirt seemingly all by itself.

The next day you take a look… dirt… only dirt… it’s only one day so you patiently wait.

Two days… nothing … three… come on already… four… will it ever grow?… five… maybe it’s a dud… six… you wonder if you should dig it up… seven… losing hope… eight… your excitement is fully depleted… nine… didn’t even bother to look today… ten… WOW! I can see something growing… how coooool is that?

It’s alive and it’s exciting but it’s so small and so frail…

Nature assures us if we continue to plant apple seeds we are guaranteed to grow apple trees.

If we continue to plant weeds we will definitely grow weeds.

Although you may be overgrown with weeds (fear and anxiety) if today you begin to consistently start planting apple seeds and stop planting weed seeds eventually (and sooner then you think) you are guaranteed to have your new plants overtake the dying weeds yielding a beautiful harvest of a new and exciting life.
